Mediterranean ItalyLa Dolce Vita is translated as the sweet life and there is no where else that you can better experience it than on the Mediterranean coast of Italy. The abundant sunshine, long beaches, sea air, and villages clinging to the cliff sides combine to give you that wonderful feeling that comes with a slower pace of life. This tour will show you the wonderful historic sights in this area of Italy while still allowing plenty of time for relaxing, sunbathing, hiking, or whatever else you can dream. We'll spend a few nights on the incomparable Isle of Capri, and a few more along the equally breathtaking Amalfi Coast. We also find some time to visit Pompeii, one of the most important archeological sites in history.
The itinerary below is a representation of what the finalized tour will be. We intend to do, at a minimum, everything listed below, but there may be circumstances out of our control that require us to change the below itinerary. Day 0 (Saturday, September 4, 2010) - Depart from USA Today you'll be leaving the USA for Naples, Italy. We refer to it as day zero because you won't actually arrive in Italy until the next day. Enjoy your flight and try to get some sleep.
Day 1 (Sunday, September 5, 2010) - Arrive in Naples Welcome to Italy! As you arrive in the bustling city of Naples you'll be immediately struck by the infectious Italian spirit. Your guides will lead you on a short optional walking tour of some of Naples' sights before meeting the entire group for a welcome dinner in the evening.
Day 2 (Monday, September 6, 2010) - Isle of Capri Rather than a bus, we start out the day today by boarding a ferry that will take us to the ritzy, glamorous, and beautiful Isle of Capri. This small island has been a vacation destination for centuries and it still hasn't lost a step. For the next two nights you'll be right in the middle of it all.
Day 3 (Tuesday, September 7, 2010) - Isle of Capri Today you'll enjoy a short tour of the island and then have plenty of time to explore, shop, or lounge on the beach.
Day 4 (Wednesday, September 8, 2010) - Amalfi Coast Heading back to the mainland today, we start our tour of the rugged, picturesque Amalfi Coast. For the next three nights we'll be staying right on the shores of the Mediterranean and enjoying all of the wonderful views, food, wine, and people that make this coast so popular.
Day 5 (Thursday, September 9, 2010) - Amalfi Coast We continue our coastal tour by visiting some of the well known towns such as Sorrento, Amalfi, and Positano (pictured).
Day 6 (Friday, September 10, 2010) - Amalfi Coast More fun in the Italian sun as we search for the best views and beaches along the Amalfi Coast.
Day 7 (Saturday, September 11, 2010) - Naples via Pompeii Before arriving in Naples for our final night in Italy, we stop at one of the most unique places in the world, Pompeii (pictured). In 79 A.D. Pompeii was buried in ash following an eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. The ancient city was preserved under the ash and laid dormant until its rediscovery in the 18th century. We'll tour the city and see examples of how people lived over 1,900 years ago, and you'll probably be surprised at how alike we are.
Day 8 (Sunday, September 12, 2010) - Return to the USA After transferring back to the airport you will catch your flight home.
