Paris Plus

Ahh, Paris. Is there another city in the world that lights the imagination so quickly? Most people have an image of an ideal romantic place, and that's fairly accurate. If romance isn't your thing though, don't fret, because Paris is so much more than that. It has famous monuments, fabulous architecture, interesting history, top class museums, amazing cafes, delicious restaurants, relaxing parks, first rate shopping, and just about anything else you may want. It truly is a city that can satisfy anyone.

This tour is more than Paris however, because you'll also get to see Honfleur, one of the wonderful towns in the Normandy region as well as the inspirational D-Day beaches. In addition you'll experience Mont-Saint-Michel and its abbey, one of the most remarkably placed structures in the world.

Also included on this tour is a wonderful night in Reims, deep in the heart of the Champagne region where you'll tour a winery and sample some of the famous bubbly. Plus you'll tour the incomparable Palace at Versailles, the famous home of Louis XIV that almost every royal palace built since has been modeled after. All of this and still time to see all the highlights of Pars, the City of Light.

Tour Is Not Currently Scheduled

We're sorry, but we are not running this tour right now. We are currently in the process of scheduling all of our 2011 tours, so if you are interested please contact us to ensure you know as soon as it becomes available.

What you get for you're money:

- Better Hotel Location – We want you to be able to explore on your own and you can’t do that from a hotel outside of the city. On this tour we stay very near harbor in Honfleur, in central Reims, and in downtown Paris.

- Personal Service – For this, like all of our tours, we handle every aspect of the trip personally. From planning to customer service to leading the tour, you deal with the same people. This allows us to respond quicker and be flexible with changes and allows you to get to know us and feel more comfortable.

- Experienced Guide, Guaranteed – We are in our 10th year of guiding tours and we run each one personally. Traveling with another company leaves your vacation in the hands of several guides with widely varying levels of quality and experience. There’s no risk with Great Explorations Tours because you know what you’re getting every single time.

Great hotels, hometown service, and experience; you can’t find that with another tour company.

Itinerary:

Day 0 (Saturday, September 4th, 2010) - Depart from North America

Today you'll be leaving for Paris. We refer to it as day zero because you won't actually arrive in France until the next day. Enjoy your flight and try to get some sleep.

Day 1 (Sunday, September 5th, 2010) - Arrive in Paris, France

Welcome to France! After transferring to your hotel, you'll have some time to relax or explore some of Paris before meeting the group and your guides for a welcome dinner.

Hotel: Hotel Mansart or similar.

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner

Day 2 (Monday, September 6th, 2010) - Versailles and the Normandy Region

This morning we visit the Palace of Versailles. Built to what it is today by the "Sun King," Louis XIV as his royal residence, the Palace is a remarkable building whose beauty is only exceeded by the vast grounds that surround it (pictured). We'll take a tour of the palace followed by a brief tour of some of the gardens (to tour them all would take several days).

From Versailles, it's on into Normandy where we'll be spending the next two nights in Honfleur. With its beautiful 17th century port that served as inspiration for many artists including Boudin and Monet, Honfleur will affect you as well.

Hotel: Hotel Le Cheval Blanc or similar.

Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 3 (Tuesday, September 7th, 2010) - D-Day Beaches and Mont-Saint-Michel

Today will definitely be an awe-inspiring day. First we travel to the infamous beaches of Normandy, where in 1944 American and British soldiers bravely stormed the coast in the face of German opposition. You can't help but feel both saddened by the loss and proud of the fight as you look over Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery.

In the afternoon we make our way to the picture perfect Mont-Saint-Michel. A monastery turned fortress perched high upon a rocky crag on a tidal island in the mouth of the Couesnon River. We'll make our way up through the tiny village that clings to the bottom of the mount to tour the monastery.

Tonight dinner is included at a very nice restaurant near the hotel.

Hotel: Hotel Le Cheval Blanc or similar.

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner

Day 4 (Wednesday, September 8th, 2010) - Champagne

Leaving the Normandy region, we head to another area of France whose name is world renown, Champagne. Our base for our only night in Champagne is Reims, which was founded around 80 B.C. and contains a fantastic gothic cathedral that was the site of the crowning of many French kings. While in Champagne, we'll also take a tour of a winery where we can sample some of the world famous wine and see where and how it's made.

Hotel: Hotel De La Paix or similar.

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner

Day 5 (Thursday, September 9th, 2010) - Paris

Today it's back to Paris to experience all that we can in the City of Light. We'll be spending the next three nights in the French capital so you can get a taste of all the wonderful aspects of this remarkable city.

Hotel: Same as night one

Day 6 (Friday, September 10th, 2010) - Paris
