London PlusLondon is one of the world's great cities. It is a place where you can find influences from all over the world, yet it still retains that proper English charm. From the monuments to the pubs, this tour will help you fall in love with London. Of course, London is not the only part of England that this tour will help you fall in love with. In addition to the capital of the U.K., we'll see one of the world's oldest man made structures, Stonehenge; Bath, a gorgeous town with a heavy Roman influence; the quaint villages of the Cotswolds; and one of the oldest and most beautiful institutes of higher learning in world, Oxford.
The itinerary below is a representation of what the finalized tour will be. We intend to do, at a minimum, everything listed below, but there may be circumstances out of our control that require us to change the below itinerary.
Today you'll be leaving the USA for London. We refer to it as day zero because you won't actually arrive in England until the next day. Enjoy your flight and try to get some sleep.
After transferring to your hotel, you'll have some time to relax or explore a little of this wonderful city before meeting the group and your guides for a welcome dinner.
For the next two nights we'll be stationed in the town of Bath. Before we arrive in the old Roman stronghold of Bath though, we'll stop at the famous Stonehenge. Estimated to be constructed around 2500 B.C. and added to through about 1600 B.C., Stonehenge is a strange sight popping up in the English countryside. No one is entirely sure how the stones were placed there or what exactly it was used for, but it is quite a sight to see.
Day 3 (Monday, November 8, 2010) - Bath The Roman settlement here was founded in 60 A.D. although the Celts were there long before that. The namesake baths were built over time from around 70 A.D. through 300. Today we'll tour those amazingly well preserved baths as well as the fabulous modern (relatively) architecture of the rest of the city that is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 4 (Tuesday, November 9, 2010) - The Cotswolds Today we head to the town of Oxford for the night. On the way we'll stop to see one of the small, well kept, decidedly English towns of the Cotswold hills.
Day 5 (Wednesday, November 10, 2010) - Oxford University and then Back to London This morning your guides will lead you on a brief tour of Oxford University's campus. You'll see some of the famous college buildings and hear all about some of its more famous students.
London has been a settlement since the Romans founded Londinium in 43 A.D. Since then it has been added to a bit at a time, which makes it a very sprawling city with an odd layout. Luckily your guides will be leading several optional guided tours to help you adjust to the bustling old capital. Among the sights you'll see on the tours are Big Ben's tower, the Parliament Building, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London (pictured), and Tower Bridge.
Our tours continue so we can help show you as much of London as possible. As always, your guides will also assist you in finding exactly what you want to do to properly enjoy your vacation.
Today you transfer back to the airport for your flight home. We hope you fully enjoyed your vacation in England.
